Agile + DevOps West 2023

Last week, I attended the #AgileDevOpsCon West, in Las Vegas. I delivered a workshop on how to "Become Your Company's Quality Consultant", and a track talk on "Avoiding the Chaos of an Agile Transformation".

There were quite many people attending my sessions with lots of questions, thoughts and stories to share. Very interesting to see how this conference is different from testing conferences, and how the attendees' focus differed, such as having more emphasis on branching strategies and integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines. After my track talk we stayed for another 15 minutes to talk about botched Agile processes, challenges with test data management and building the infrastructure for testing.

An interesting lesson is that still most people, no matter their roles and titles, are facing similar challenges, and most often the root causes are companies not having a mature culture to adapt to following Agile and especially DevOps principles. Not having testers or proper testing practices in place, and being unable to achieve in-sprint test automation are reasons why these companies cannot take the next steps in their Agile transformation, and essentially delay their releases by months, every single time they want to go to production.

The atmosphere in the Ceasars Palace was interesting, exciting and definitely different than what I got used to at hotels in Los Angeles, Orlando and Budapest. :-)

Enjoy this view from my hotel room!
